Looking for value? Look for a Certified Travel Counsellor
|
ASK ME FOR MY CREDENTIALS |
|
A Credential is a form of recognition or proof of a qualification. Examples of credentials may include a specialist designation or certification. In the Canadian Travel Industry, CITC (the Canadian Institute of Travel Counsellors) awards the CTC (Certified Travel Counsellor) and CTM (Certified Travel Manager) designations.
In order to achieve the designation, a travel professional must pass a series of evaluations based on the National Occupational Standards. For the CTC designation, this includes a Knowledge Exam, industry experience, a check-list of skills and a workplace evaluation. Once a pass mark is achieved on all items, then the counsellor is entitled to use the designation.
What does it mean to you, the traveller, to deal with a Certified Travel Counsellor?
- Savings: Survey after survey has shown that consumers usually save money when they book with a CTC. The rule of thumb is: Research on the Internet – then Book with a certified travel professional.
- Personal contact – someone who takes a personal interest in the success of your travels.
- Experience and Expertise backed up by passing the national travel industry standard evaluations.
- Complete and accurate information on airfares, hotels, attractions, suppliers, travel documentation, travel insurance and everything that has to do with travel services.
- Advice on travel documentation; where to seek travel medical advice.
- Assistance, should anything go wrong during your trip. Think of a certified travel professional as your own personal lobbyist, working on your behalf, before, during and after the trip.
How do you find a CTC in your neighbourhood?
All CTCs and CTMs are listed in the National Directory of Certified Travel Professionals. You may also contact CITC at info@citc.ca for assistance in finding a CTC near you.
Your travel counsellor’s credentials are part of the value they
add when you purchase travel services.
Ask your travel counsellor for their credentials. If they are not a Certified Travel Counsellor, ask them why not.

Join the Global Explorers Club |
|
The Global Explorers Club was founded in 1996 for travel industry members who loved to talk about travel, learn about new and exotic destinations, sample some indigenous food and drink, and in general, have a relaxed social evening centered around 'travel'.
CITC has now opened up the Global Explorers Club to non-industry travellers who would love to have a networking/learning atmosphere to indulge their love (or addiction) to travel. We have meetings once every 3-4 months in the dowbtown Toronto area.
Admission is $10.00 per meeting. Topics may range from Chile to New Guinea; Tibet to Ghana; India to St; Lucia. If you would like to recieve email notification of the next meeting, please email info@citc.ca with your full name and email address and we will add you to the list!
